CYCLING HERE

Victoria is the known as the "Cycling Capital of Canada". Having the mildest climate in Canada, cycling is a popular way of getting around 12 months of the year.

Hatley Park National Historic Site is accessible via a wonderfully safe and scenic bicycle trail – The Galloping Goose Trail – a former railway line! This is a regional trail that stretches 55 kilometres from downtown Victoria, to an abandoned mining site near the west shore community of Sooke.

Scenic views, safe trails, washrooms and resting spots are available – but bring your own water as there are very few public drinking fountains. Also, helmets are required by law in British Columbia, so don’t forget to strap up for safety.

The Galloping Goose is a two-way trail, some paved, some gravel. Virtually every kilometre has an indicator sign, Hatley Park is located between the 14 and 16 km marker and the trail crosses the entrance at 2005 Sooke Road.

Note: BC Ferries allows passengers to bring their bikes aboard for a small fee and many city transit buses have bike racks. Bring your own bike, or rent from one of the many excellent shops ready to gear you up.
