Bear on campus. Gardens closed. (Dec. 26)

We have a confirmed bear sighting near the gardens on campus. The gardens are closed until further notice. Here's what to do if you see a bear.

Bear sighting on campus

A bear has been spotted on campus near Sneq'wa e'lun (Blue Heron House) near the shoreline. For your safety, always walk with a buddy and avoid walking alone. Please continue to keep dogs leashed at all times. Learn more about bear safety tips.

Limited access to formal gardens, January 29 to February 2

Access to the formal gardens surrounding Hatley Castle will be limited due to university activities from January 29 to February 2, 2024.

Guided walking tours

The 2023 tour season begins May 15 and runs until September 4

Gardens closed April 17

The gardens at Royal Roads have been closed because of high winds and falling branches. Use caution when on campus and trails.

Campus closed

Campus is closed due to snow. Closures include the Library, Rec. Centre, Habitat Cafe. University Drive hill closed to vehicle traffic. Travel to and around campus is not recommended.

Formal gardens closing early

Due to continued cold temperatures and winds causing ice to form on the paths, the formal gardens are closing early on Thursday, February 23. We will update again when the paths are open for use. 

Winter break

The campus, gardens, Campus Store and Habitat Cafe are closed for winter break from Dec. 23 to Jan. 2. If you are on campus or trails during this time please use caution and dress for weather.
