Hatley Forest

A Taste of the West Coast Trail -- BC's finest old growth trees

With over 15k of hiking trails, all you need is some great footwear and you are able to enjoy a ‘taste of the west coast trail’. You don’t have to be in the north or far from the city to get the flavour of what our forested areas of the province are like.

Within Hatley Park National Historic Site there are some of the largest and oldest trees in the province.  According to the Ministry of the Environment's Register of Big Trees of British Columbia, Hatley Park is home to the Province's 10th largest Douglas Fir.  It measures 8.55 m (28 ft) in circumference and 73.5 m (241 ft) in height.  We are also home to the 5th largest Grand Fir, which measures 4.6 m (15.1 ft) in circumference and 64.6 m (212 ft) in height.  The maple trees on site are also noted for being among the finest and oldest specimens in North America.
